Miami took homecourt advantage in game 2, but the San Antonio Spurs seized it right back Tuesday night, smothering the Heat 111-92 in South Beach.

San Antonio small forward Kawhi Leonard picked the right time to have a career night. In game 3 of the NBA Finals, Leonard scored a career-high 29 points, shooting an amazing 10-13 from the floor. The entire Spurs offense was hot, shooting a blistering 75.8% in the first two quarters.

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich changed his starting lineup, replacing Tiago Splitter with Boris Diaw. Diaw’s ability to hit the 3 helped spread the floor for San Antonio, giving the Heat fits for the first half. By the time halftime struck, San Antonio led 71-50.

“I don’t think we’ll ever shoot 76 percent in a half ever again,” Popovich noted in postgame.

San Antonio’s lead ballooned to as many as 25. Miami came out fired up for the second half, outscoring the Spurs by 10 in the 3rd quarter. While the Heat closed the gap to as little as 7, there was never a sense that the Spurs weren’t in full control of Game 3.

Tony Parker and Danny Green each score 15 for the Spurs, while Tim Duncan (pictured above) added 14. Manu Ginobili led the Spurs bench with 11.

Miami was led by both LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, who each finished with 22 points, but the Heat couldn’t get big games out of anyone else. Chris Bosh finished with 9, though he was perfect from the floor (4-4).

The Heat host Game 4 on Thursday in Miami. Tip-off is set for 8:00.
