South Carolina Rips Virginia

South Carolina finished with 13 hits in their dominant CWS victory over Virginia last night in Omaha. The Gamecocks 7-1 win over the Cavaliers was their 13th NCAA tournament win in a row, tying them with Southern Cal and LSU for most consecutive tournament victories. Here is more on the game from the AP and espn.com.

The Gamecocks (52-14) are off until Friday and would have to be beaten twice by Virginia or California to not return to the best-of-three finals next week. No. 1 national seed Virginia (55-11) plays California in a Thursday elimination game.

South Carolina and Florida were the favorites to meet in the College World Series final once the field for Omaha was set. Both clubs have put themselves in the driver’s seat to do so.

The Gamecocks narrowly escaped with a win in their first game of the CWS, walking-off with a 5-4 victory over Texas A&M. The Aggies were eliminated from the CWS yesterday after their 7-3 loss to California.
