Florida Atlantic University has called a press conference for 3pm CDT today, and is expected to announce that football coach Howard Schnellenberger will retire at the end of the season.

The 77-year old Schnellenberger is in his eleventh season as FAU head coach.  He was hired to start the program back in 1998.

Schnellenberger has led FAU to two bowl appearances while a member of the Sun Belt Conference.  He also oversaw the new $70 million dollar on-campus facility scheduled to open on October 15th.  FAU has played its home games at Lockhart Stadium, a high school facility in Fort Lauderdale, since its inception as a program.
