Louisiana Ragin' Cajun forward Shawn Long has been named the Sun Belt Conference men's basketball Student Athlete of the Week.

In two games last week, a win at Troy and a loss at South Alabama, Long averaged 27 points, 16.5 rebounds, 4.5 blocks and 1.5 assists. The Sun Belt Conference leader in scoring, rebounding and blocks per game also had a 20-20 game when he scored a season-high 29 and pulled down a season-high 20 boards in last Thursday's win over the Trojans.

"He's the most dominant player in the Sun Belt Conference," Louisiana head coach Bob Marlin said of Long at his weekly press conference Monday. "If he continues to play the way he's played the last 5 out of 6 (games), we have a chance to win (Sun Belt) tournament."

It marked the 73rd double-double of his illustrious career, which ranks as the most among active NCAA players, and 14th all-time in NCAA history.

Long is already the leading rebounder in school and Sun Belt history (1,393), the 4th leading scorer in school and Sun Belt history (2,224), and needs only 3 more blocks to add to his current total of 264 to become the 2nd leading shot blocker in conference history.
