Saturday in the Sun Belt
With Wednesday night games and other teams having the week off, there were only four Sun Belt teams in action Saturday. And, one of the two games was a nail-biter. Here are the details:
GEORGIA STATE 41, TEXAS STATE 21--Georgia State spotted Texas State a fourteen point lead, then scored 34 unanswered points to win its first conference game of the season.
Connor Manning threw for 340 yards, a career-high, and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Panthers (1-4, 1-1 Sun Belt). His favorite target was Robert Davis, who tied his career high with nine catches for 149 yards and a score.
Texas State (2-3, 0-1) failed to capitalize on three GSU turnovers in the second half. Tyler Jones threw for 300 yards in the loss.
IDAHO 34, UL MONROE 31--Austin Rehkow nailed a 27 yard field goal as time expired to give the Vandals (2-3, 1-1 Sun Belt) a 34-31 win at Malone Stadium Saturday night. It was Rehkow's fourth field goal of the game.
The Vandals took advantage of two interceptions and a blocked punt to build a 16-0 lead, but the Warhawks (1-4, 0-2) came back as Garrett Smith scored on a touchdown run then found Xavier Brown for a touchdown strike that cut the deficit to 24-21 at the half.
ULM found itself trailing 31-24 but tied the game at 31 with 2:28 to play with a touchdown pass to Ajalen Holley. But the Vandals got a 40 yard run by Aaron Duckworth in a six play drive that culminated in the winning kick.
