The San Francisco Giants defeated the San Diego Padres, 9-8, on Thursday night, securing National League wild card berth, after the Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Cincinnati Reds earlier in the day.

For the Giants, who are 86-73 on the season, it's their second postseason berth in the last three years, their third in the last five years, their 10th postseason appearance since moving to San Francisco from New York following the 1957 season, and their 27th since their first in 1888.
