Saints Trade Sproles to Eagles

Harry How/Getty Images Sport

Darren Sproles wanted to be released by the Saints.

But when the team got a chance to pick up some value for him, they jumped at the chance.

ESPN.com is reporting Sproles has been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles for a fifth round draft pick.

Sproles had told the club he would rather be released than traded so he would have a choice of who to play for.

But there was quite a bit of interest from other teams and the Saints were able to work a deal to get a draft pick in exchange.

Sproles scored 21 touchdowns in his three years with the Saints.
