Saints Sign Veteran CB Tony Carter, RB Kendall Hunter

With several players heading to injured reserve, the New Orleans Saints signed several players to their roster, according to multiple reports.

Veteran cornerback Tony Carter (pictured) has signed with New Orleans, filling the roster spot of corner Damian Swann who was placed on IR after suffering his third concussion of the season in Sunday's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Carter, 29, is a seven year veteran, spending time with the Indianapolis Colts and the majority of his career with the Denver Broncos. At 5'9, 175 pounds, Carter could see extensive playing time in a banged up Saints secondary that has struggled this year.

New Orleans also inked veteran running back Kendall Hunter. Hunter spent the last 4 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, reaching an injury settlement upon his release in September. At 27, Hunter feels he still has football left, but hasn't played since 2013, spending all of 2014 injured.

Hunter fills the roster spot left open by rookie running back Marcus Murphy, who was also placed on injured reserve with a high ankle sprain.

Fullback Toben Opurum spent week 1 on the Saints active roster before being waived, clearing waivers, and signed with New Orleans practice squad. He was signed to the active roster toda, taking the spot opened up by the release of defensive end Philip Hunt earlier this week.

New Orleans (5-8) hosts the Detroit Lions (4-9) this Monday night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Kickoff is set for 7:30.
