The New Orleans Saints finished the 2018 regular season 13-3 and the number one seed in the NFC. Following the finish of the season on Monday the team announced that they're giving out a late Christmas gift to backup tight end Josh Hill with a contract extension. The news was first reported by ESPN NFL Insider, Field Yates:

The Saints are taking care of one of their own, a guy who isn't a big play threat but has been a steady constant for the team at tight end since he started his NFL career with the team in 2013.

Josh Hill is best known for his blocking abilities but had the best offensive season of his career with 16 catches and a new career high in receiving yards with 185 yards, and scored one touchdown.

Starting tight end Benjamin Watson is set to retire at season's end so this was a big move to bring back Hill who's prior deal was scheduled to expire in March 2019. Dan Arnold will be the only other tight end on the roster, the Saints hope he can take over more of the offensive duties that the tight end position brings to this offense, leaving Hill to do what he does best, blocking.
