Since he's been the head coach of the New Orleans Saints, Sean Payton has never kept less than 3 tight ends on the active roster. When the Saints announced their cuts on Saturday, fans were surprised to see only 2 TEs on the list. That lasted only 2 days, as the Saints will go into the season opener this Thursday with 3. New Orleans added 10 year veteran TE John Gilmore.

Gilmore, a Penn State alum, was actually drafted by the Saints in the 6th round of the 2002 draft. He didn't make the roster, but caught on with the Chicago Bears where he spent 6 seasons. The next 3 he made a home in the NFC South with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Steelers signed him in the offseason, but released him Saturday.

Gilmore has spent the majority of his career as a primary blocking TE, though he's reeled in 5 touchdowns in 9 seasons.
