LSU head football coach Les Miles insinuated to the Gridiron Club today that tomorrow's game in Baton Rouge against Texas A&M will be his last as head coach of the Tigers, according to a report from Jim Kleinpeter of The Times-Picayune.

Rumors have swirled for the last week that Miles would be fired upon season's end. He didn't beg for his job or address the rumors much when asked earlier in the week about the story, electing to say he was only focused on his team and beating Texas A&M.

According to the report, Les didn't come right out and say it would be his final game, but made it clear through his comments, telling the Gridiron Club members "good bye" in the process. He reportedly received a standing ovation.

Since the report, LSU has released a statement claiming Miles did not insinuate what Kleinpeter's report claims.

Several weeks ago, a firing of Miles would've seemed odd considering LSU was 7-0 and ranked #2 in the nation.

However, three straight double-digit losses and a recent downward trend made Miles expendable in the eyes of LSU athletic director Joe Alleva.

Miles leaves LSU as the most winning coach in franchise history (77.5%), won two SEC championships (2007, 2011), a national championship (2007) and played for another (2011).

Several reports suggest LSU reached out to former Tigers offensive coordinator and current Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher to gauge his interest in the LSU job.

Fisher was asked about the situation Monday, responding with, "I have no comment on that. I have a policy: I don't speak about jobs. It's unfair to the players that are there, the players that are here, the coaches there and here. And there's no job opening [at LSU], so I have no comment on that. I'm not going to comment on any job in any way, shape or form."

No comment is different from "no".

The next hire for LSU will obviously be crucial for the program, but also for Alleva's tenure as director of athletics.

Miles was hired by former LSU AD Skip Bertman. With a $15 million buyout paid to Miles for him not to coach, Alleva's hire better better surpass the sucess Miles had at LSU, where he was the winningest coach in program history.
