The New Orleans Saints worked out cornerback Derek Cox, according to a report from ESPN.

In the 2013 offseason, Cox appeared to be a target of the Saints in free agency. After visiting with the team, he eventually signed a 4-year, $20 million deal with San Diego, getting $10.25 in guaranteed money from the Chargers. The Saints elected to sign Keenan Lewis.

The 6-foot-1, 195 pound Cox began his career in 2009 with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who drafted him in the 3rd round out of William & Mary.

Cox's 2013 season with littered with inconsistency, which eventually led to a benching. He was cut in the offseason by the Chargers, despite being 1 year into a big contract.

Minnesota signed Cox, but cut him following their third preseason game. He then spent a few days with the Baltimore Ravens, but didn't make their final 53 man roster.

Patrick Robinson started the season at cornerback for New Orleans opposite Lewis. Robinson struggled in the first two games (both losses), and as a result, was replaced by Corey White in the starting lineup in Sunday's win over the Vikings.

The Saints pass defense is currently ranked 29th in the league.
