The New Orleans Saints will workout outside linebacker/defensive end Matt Shaughnessy this weekend, according to tweet from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Shaughnessy was most recently with the Arizona Cardinals, playing a big role on defense in 2013 and 2014. However, an injury during training camp last season caused him to miss the year. He was released by Arizona just before the season.

Taken by the Oakland Raiders in the third round of the 2009 NFL draft, Shaughnessy was a standout defender at Wisconsin, playing 50 games (starting 46), accumulating 174 tackles and 18.5 sacks.

He played every game of his rookie season in Oakland, spending 4 seasons with the Raiders.

Shaughnessy tallied 18.5 sacks in his first 5 seasons in the league.

Injuries have slowed him, but if he has a solid workout with the Saints, he may earn a spot on the training camp and preseason roster to prove he's still got it.

New Orleans is in desperate need of a consistent pass rusher outside of 2-time Pro Bowler Cameron Jordan.
