Veteran tight end John Phillips has overcome injuries and being waived more than once in his NFL career.

Last year, he was waived by the Denver Broncos in November, only to be picked up by the New Orleans Saints.

He caught 5 passes for 32 yards, working as an H back and serving as a blocking tight end in the Saints offense late last season.

According to Nick Underhill of The AdvocatePhillips has signed a one-year deal to return to New Orleans.

Phillips will likely hope the Saints don't draft a tight end. In addition to Phillips, the Saints already have Coby Fleener and Josh Hill atop the depth chart, with Michael Hoomanawanui who served as an H back and backup tight end last year before landing on injured reserve, opening up the door for a Phillips signing.
