Red Wolves Crush The Cajuns 50-27

Thirteen possessions for Arkansas State on Tuesday night. Ten possessions ending with points. Five touchdowns. Five field goals. 50 points.

The numbers aren’t pretty if you’re a fan of Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns. UL was behind right from the start, trailing 20-0 in the first minute of the 2nd quarter. When all was said and done, the Red Wolves defeated the Ragin’ Cajuns by the score of 50-27.The home loss is the first of the Mark Hudspeth era.

Playing uphill the rest of the night, the Cajuns abandoned their running game for the most part, tallying only 76 yards on 23 rushes.

Quarterback Terrance Broadway was able to wrack up 374 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 28 of 41. The problem was turnovers. Broadway threw 3 interceptions, and fumbled twice. Five Louisiana turnovers. Zero ASU turnovers. In fact, the Cajuns haven’t forced a turnover in 128 minutes. Over the last two games, UL is -7 in turnover margin. Unsurprisingly, both games ended in defeat.

Quarterback Ryan Aplin and Arkansas State came out clicking from the start, rolling their way to 29 first downs. The Cajun defense couldn’t get them off the field, as ASU won the time of possession battle by 13:16. They rushed for 257 yards on 50 carries. Aplin threw for 269 yards and 1 score. The Red Wolves wracked up a total of 526 yards. The last two Tuesdays, Louisiana’s defense has given up

ASU snapped an eight-game losing streak at Cajun Field, where they hadn’t won in 20 years. With the victory, the Red Wolves improve to 5-3, and 3-1 in Sun Belt Conference play.

With the loss, UL falls to 4-3, and 2-2 in Sun Belt Conference play. They’ll try to bounce back on November 3rd when they visit SBC leader Louisiana-Monroe.
