A press conference has been called for Friday to announce the hiring of an executive director of the Ragin' Cajun Athletic Foundation (RCAF).

The press conference will be held at the new UL Student Union ballroom (Atchafalaya Ballroom "B" at 10am and will be open only to credentialed media.

The hiring will be the culmination of a two year process which included making the RCAF a separate foundation from the UL Foundation and the UL athletic department.

A committee of five from the RCAF Executive Board went through the resumes of 69 applicants and selected five to be interviewed.

The job specifications advertised were many; however the primary emphasis for the new Director will be to raise money for the Foundation.  UL is about to complete a $25 million dollar Tier I of a new $115 million dollar master plan for athletics which include the construction of seating in the south end zone of Cajun Field along with new restrooms and concessions, a new Athletic Performance Center, scheduled to open next month which includes a new weight room, training area, locker rooms, expanded equipment room and coaches' offices, and a new locker room for soccer and track and field.  The university is in the silent phase of fundraising for Tier II, which includes a seven story complex with suites and a new press box on the west side of Cajun Field and construction of an upper deck on the east side, and a $10-11 million dollar upgrade to M. L. "Tigue" Moore Field.

The RCAF last year took over six million dollars, including 2.1 million dollars for the general fund, which is used mainly to supplement coaches' salaries. The new Executive Director will answer to the 24 member RCAF Board of Directors.
