The Ragin’ Cajuns’ win streak reached double digits in Hattiesburg, where they swept Southern Miss in convincing fashion.

In their current ten game win streak, the Ragin’ Cajuns are outscoring opponents 100-15. After smashing Southern Miss with two mercy rule victories to start the series, the Cajuns went the distance on Sunday for a 6-2 victory and the sweep. Southern Miss hung tight all the way until the sixth inning, when the Cajuns separated themselves with four runs in three at bats.

The bases were loaded, then Kelli Martinez and Hayley Hayden collected a couple RBI singles and Martinez scored the fourth run on an error. After they pushed the lead to 6-2, Kylee Jo Trahan shut the door.

Alex Stewart started the game in the circle, then she handed the ball off to Trahan in the fourth. Both pitchers only allowed a single run apiece, and Trahan improved to 6-1 with the win.

The Cajuns took Southern Miss’ best shot on Sunday. Trahan allowed a home run to tie the game up in the fourth inning, but that was the last run given up on the day. From that point on, the offense came through and took advantage of three Southern Miss errors. They found a way to win a game where they got outhit 9-5 on the road, which speaks for itself.

Hayden and DJ Sanders were the offensive stars of the day. Both picked up two RBI’s on the day, Sanders with a home run in the fourth and Hayden’s clutch conversion in the sixth. Kassidy Zeringue also continued her offensive improvement, collecting two hits and scoring her 16th run of the season.

One midweek game against Longwood University separates the Ragin’ Cajuns from their biggest series in conference play. South Alabama comes into town this weekend. Head Coach Michael Lotief’s team looks seasoned and dangerous in their 17-1 start, but Sun Belt Conference play hasn’t started yet. It begins this week with a bang.
