Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns dominated Appalachian State, 80-64, to give Head Coach Bob Marlin his 300th career Division-I victory in fitting fashion.

The Cajuns won the rebounding battle (38-36), forced App into a negative assist-turnover ratio (8:15), and shot over 50% from the floor (31-60 FG). Five players broke double-digits in the scoring column and the team shared the ball for 18 assists. Coach Marlin's team executed the gameplan to a tee, never letting up after jumping to a 14-point lead to end the first half.

Would it be too much to ask for a coach to take credit for his success after collecting a major milestone? For Marlin, he was only a piece of the puzzle.

"It says you've had a lot of good players and good assistant coaches," Marlin said after his 300th career D-1 victory.

It also says you know how to get the job done, coach.

Marlin played twelve deep off the bench, getting statistical contributions from 11 of those 12 players. A freshman, Bryce Washington, single-handedly outplayed App in the post in the first half and finished with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal and block apiece. He led his squad to not only a conference win, but a conference win on the road in the mountain air.

The coach calls the shots, but at the end of the day his players are the ones executing on the floor. In Boone, his players stepped up all around. Shawn Long was one rebound away from another double-double (10 pts, 9 rebs), and Kasey Shepherd quietly collected 13 points and grabbed five rebounds off the glass. Williams went off for 15 points too. The stats could go on for days.

The best part of Marlin's 300th career Division-I victory? He didn't even know about it until he was told afterward. That's the beauty of good coaches. Sometimes they work so hard they don't even notice the milestones whizzing by.

Stop and smell the roses, Coach Marlin. 400 is next on the horizon, but soak in 300 for a while, or at least the plane ride back from Boone.
