Teammates form tight bonds, and even though Herman Williams never got to play a game for the Ragin’ Cajuns, the players on the team still lost a brother.

Bryce Washington talked to Williams two days before learning of his sudden death. He said the team already decided they wanted to honor Williams, who passed away one day after his 19th birthday. Washington said the team wants to touch the number zero before walking out of the tunnel, that way Williams is still a part of the squad next year.

Williams was going to wear the number zero for the Cajuns, and his teammates intend on giving him that jersey. They will look at it as a reminder of their friend, then go play basketball for him.

Johnathan Stove and Frank Bartley IV explained the shock of the news, and incoming freshman Roydell Brown shared his connection with Williams.

Brown and Williams were set to be roommates. Their lockers are right next to each other, but Williams won’t get to fill his locker or lace up his shoes. Nobody should have to talk about the death of a 19-year-old, but the members of the Ragin’ Cajuns basketball team did their best to put their thoughts into words in front of the cameras.
