Louisiana Ragin' Cajun linebacker Justin Anderson had one of the best defensive performances in the Country last week in a win against Western Kentucky. His stat line of 16 tackles, 11 solo, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries only tell part of the story. For his efforts, Anderson was named the Sun Belt Conference player of the week today.

Anderson stripped WKU tight end Mitchell Henry, picked up the ball, and returned it to the Western Kentucky 35 yard line late in the 2nd quarter, setting up a UL lead changing offensive touchdown, a lead the Cajuns wouldn't relinquish.

Anderson, nicknamed "baseball" by his teammates, forced another fumble on Henry in the 4th quarter, recovering it himself.

Ragin' Cajun head coach Mark Hudspeth talked to ragincajuns.com about Anderson's honor and accolades.

“This is a nice honor for Justin,” Louisiana head coach Mark Hudspeth said.  “He helped to inspire the defensive performance at Western Kentucky last week that gave us a big road victory.

“Justin has not only been our best defender this season, but he has been a leader for the Cajuns on the field.  He is a legitimate candidate for Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year.

“As much as we appreciate Justin being honored for his play, the focus of the entire Ragin’ Cajuns football team is on getting ready for Tuesday night’s game at Arkansas State,” Hudspeth said.
