With a sweep in the state of Georgia, Ragin' Cajuns Women's basketball moved to 12-3 (5-1 Sun Belt) before heading home for seven of their next eight games.

Not only are the Cajuns 5-1 in Sun Belt play, four of those wins came on the road. Garry Brodhead's road warriors continue to wrestle teams to the mat with their gritty style of play, and the brand of defense they play is proving to be too much for the majority of their opponents.

Brodhead doesn't let players who don't play hard touch the court. Now that the culture is in place, the Cajuns are pushing people off the court.

Against Georgia State, Brodhead's team got out to a 20-5 lead after the first quarter. They let their opponents warm up in the second quarter, but they shut it down the rest of the way out for a 77-57 victory. After the end of the third quarter, Jaylyn Gordon and Kia Wilridge were outscoring the entire Georgia State team, 44-36.

It was another suffocating performance, but what else should we expect at this point?

"It all started with defense," Brodhead said after the game.

It also helped that the Cajuns shot immaculately from the free throw line (20-23 FT), and the guards continued to prove their dominance.

Jaylyn Gordon led the way with 24 points (8-17 FG, 4-11 3-pt, 4-4 FT) and seven assists, while Kia Wilridge backed her up with 20 points (7-13 FG, 1-2 3-pt, 5-6 FT) and a team leading six rebounds. Add in Keke Veal's 14 points and you get 56 points, only one short of the entire Georgia State team total. On a bright note, Sylvana "Silk" Okde hit a three pointer in the fourth quarter...look out if she gets involved in the offense too.

The Cajuns outrebounded the Panthers 37-27, and Breionne Cooper continued to develop in the post with five rebounds, two blocks a steal and countless alterations on shots in the paint. Her 18 minutes, paired with Simone Fields' effective 17 minutes, gave the Cajuns an intriguing physical compliment to their guard play in the paint.

If this team finds a way to tie together post play with their stellar guards, their is no ceiling on their potential.

Speaking of potential, the Cajuns are 12-3 heading into seven of their next games at home. Practically speaking, they could emerge out of this home stretch with a record of anywhere between 20-3 and, let's be honest, worst case scenario somewhere around 17-7...Brodhead would have taken that record at the end of the season, hands down.

Headed back to the Cajundome with the chance to turn their current run into a sprint into the Sun Belt Tournament, Coach Brodhead wants the support his team rightfully deserves.

"We’re going to need some fans because we haven’t been in the Dome in a while," Brodhead said. "We need to try to get about 3,000 people out to see us…winning isn’t very fun when you’re there by yourself.”

Share in the fun. You might not see a women's basketball team like this again for a while.
