Louisiana Ragin' Cajun defensive lineman Christian Ringo has been named the Sun Belt Conference defensive player of the week for his performance in a 34-10 win over Texas State last Tuesday.

Ringo, a senior from Jackson, Mississippi, finished the game with 4 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 1 fumble recovery and 1 defensive touchdown.

In one of the biggest plays of the game last Tuesday, Cajun linebacker Trae Johnson broke through the Bobcat line, sacking and stripping quarterback Tyler Jones. Ringo scooped up the ball, rumbling 41 yards for a score as he was escorted by a caravan of teammates. The score extended the Cajuns lead in the second quarter from 7-3 to 14-3, giving Louisiana momentum they’d keep for the rest of the night.

Ringo and the Cajuns prepare for another Tuesday night affair tomorrow at home. In a battle of 2013 Sun Belt Conference champions, Louisiana (3-3, 2-0) plays host to Arkansas State (4-2, 2-0). Kickoff at Cajun field is set for 7:04. Catch all the action on the radio at ESPN1420, espn1420.com, and the free smart phone app Radio Pup. Pregame begins at 5:00.

SBC offensive player of the week is South Alabama quarterback Brandon Bridge, while SBC special teams player of the week is Idaho punter/kicker Austin Rehkow.
