As is required by the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN), Chevron has announced there could be close to 400 layoffs in the Spring and Summer.

The five offices that were listed in the notice include:

  • 5750 Johnston Street, Lafayette
  • 200 Galbert Road, Lafayette
  • 111 Park Place Drive, Covington
  • 205 Holiday Blvd., Covington
  • 100, 109 & 114 Northpark Blvd., Covington

The notification of the possible layoffs was sent to the Louisiana Workforce Commission on Thursday noting that they will be laying off 45 offshore workers along with 340 office employees.

Chevron officials said in their statement that, "in light of the current market environment, Chevron is focusing its efforts on increasing efficiencies, reducing costs and prioritizing projects in The Gulf of Mexico."

Some 385 employees have the possibility of being without jobs by the end of the summer.

The employees will be given helping in getting other work at other Chevron locations, and the company says they will offer severance to people who can't secure work.  The company adds the figures are only an estimate.
