Former Ragin' Cajuns assistant Matt Deggs recruited several of the players who will be contributors for the nationally ranked Cajuns this weekend.

Now Deggs has to try and beat the team he helped create.

The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns open the 2016 season Friday night at M. L. "Tigue" Moore Field against Deggs' Sam Houston State Bearkats and it looks as though Deggs is using the same formula that was used at Louisiana when the Cajuns brought in a slew of newcomers for 2013.

Deggs has 29 new players, 19 of them freshmen on his squad this season after going 31-28 a season ago and advancing to the finals of the Southland Conference Baseball Tournament.

While both Deggs and Louisiana head coach Tony Robichaux plan to throw multiple pitchers this weekend, here are the starting pitching matchups with 2015 numbers in parenthesis.
