The New Orleans Pelicans signed undrafted free agent guard Bryce Dejean-Jones to a partially guaranteed deal today, according to realgm.com.

Dejean-Jones was the second leading scorer on the Pelicans summer league team, averaging 12.8 points per contest at an impressive clip (61.5% FG, 50.0% 3FG%).

He's extremely competitive and displays an edge on the court from a guy who won't back down.

At 6'5, Dejean-Jones will have a chance to earn a roster spot, but with a partially guaranteed deal, he'll have to prove his worth.

By comparison, last season rookie Patric Young and veteran Darius Miller signed partially guaranteed contracts, but were cut from the roster before the 2015 calendar year.

Dejean-Jones had several issues during his collegiate career, with reports of locker room problems during two seasons at UNLV that included his inability to control emotions, coupled with too many on court shots. He transferred to Iowa State, where he was a factor for the Cyclones last season, but was arrested (charge eventually dropped) after failing to turn down the music in his apartment during a party after multiple requests to do so. There were also reports of marijuana at the party.

Dejean-Jones appeared to say all the right things during Summer League, acknowledging the mistakes from his past.

At 22 years old, don't look for him to take the opportunity lightly.
