Five games into the season, the New Orleans Pelicans (2-3) played their best game, putting down the Memphis Grizzlies (2-3) with a 99-84 victory. Defense, fast break points, and rebounding propelled the Pelicans to a solid Southwest Divisional win.

Anthony Davis (pictured) continues to play like a bonafide All-Star. He stuffed the state sheet once again, finishing with 18 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks, 3 steals, and 2 assists.

Coming off a disappointing home loss Tuesday night to the Phoenix Suns, New Orleans needed to rebound, both mentally and on the hardwood. They beat the Grizzlies on the glass 39-29, and made sure to be zoned in from start to finish.

“We hate losing," explained Davis to Fox Sports courtside reporter Jen Hale. "We had a great team meeting this morning and we were devoted to win this game.”

Eric Gordon was outstanding as well, leading all Pelicans in scoring with 19. Tyreke Evans scored 16 off the bench, looking more confident and comfortable in his role off the pine.

Defense turned into offense for the Pelicans in the win, leading to many easy baskets. New Orleans feasted on 18 Memphis turnovers, turning it into 22 easy points.

The Pelicans return home for a Friday night showdown with the popular Los Angeles Lakers (2-3)

. Tip-off is set for 7:00.
