New Orleans Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry told attendees at a 3-point fan club of New Orleans meeting last night that point guard Jrue Holiday will be a minutes per game restriction until January.

According to John Reid of nola.com, Holiday is expected to play with roughly the same restrictions he had last postseason.

Holiday is not expected to play more than 10 minutes per game in the preseason and not more than 15 minutes per game through January during the regular season.

Also, Gentry said Holiday will not play in back-to-back games for a while.

'It's a situation where, like I said, we are going to precede with caution. We'll see how training camp goes and how he is and we'll try to work our way through that," explained Gentry. "I think we have a plan in place with the medical people and they will be on top of that. We are going to follow protocol because he is a very important player for us.''

After trading away the 6th overall pick of the 2013 draft and a first round pick in 2014 for Philadelphia in exchange for Holiday, the 2013 All-Star has missed 90 games for New Orleans.

In his first season with the Pelicans, he suffered a stress fracture in his right tibia. He missed half of last season with a stress reaction in his right leg, but returned late in the year in a limited role.

A cautious approach is undoubtedly the right one for Holiday. If New Orleans can have a healthy Jrue for the second half of the season without a minute restriction, Gentry will have more viable options on the floor.

"If we get him healthy, he makes us a really good team,'' Gent

The Pelicans begin training camp on Tuesday.
