New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday underwent successful surgery on Wednesday to remove the screw that was in the rod in his right leg, the team announced.

The rod was put in his lower right leg last year after he suffered a stress fracture in his right tibia.

Early last week, Holiday met with the media in his exit interview, stating that he planned to have the screw removed, so the surgery is not unexpected.

Holiday missed 42 games last season due to swelling and pain in his lower right leg. Hopefully the removed screw can alleviate that.

In his 40 regular season appearances last season, Holiday averaged 4.8 points, 6.9 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game.
