New Orleans Pelicans forward Quincy Pondexter won't play in a game this season. He's undergoing another surgery on his left knee, the team announced Monday evening.

Pondexter was listed as questionable on the Pelicans injury report last week, indicating he was close to seeing his first action of the season after undergoing surgery on his left knee last May.

However, between last week and this week he went from questionable to out. Tonight, the Pelicans announced Pondexter will have a procedure on the same knee, putting him out for the entire season.

“After undergoing further evaluation from our medical staff, additional specialists, and consulting with Quincy and his representatives, we have collectively concluded that it is best for the long-term interest of Quincy to have an additional surgical procedure to correct the cartilage injury in his left knee,” Pelicans general manager and Senior VP of Basketball Operations Dell Demps said in a statement. “This decision was determined due to a lack of progression in the recovery process.”

Pondexter was penciled in as the starting small forward. New Orleans has missed his basketball smarts, as well as his leadership this season.

The Pelicans (11-25) play in Los Angeles against the Lakers (8-31) tomorrow night at the Staples Center. Tip-off is set for 9:30.
