Pelicans Come Up Short, Fall To Knicks

The New Orleans Pelicans (23-30) suffered a 98-91 loss to the New York Knicks on Wednesday night for several reasons, including Carmelo Anthony. The New York All-Star took over on offense late, scoring the last 3 baskets for the Knicks.

“He was efficient all night long,” said Pelicans coach Monty Williams of Anthony. “He hit tough shots. A lot of those shots had a hand in his face.”

New Orleans All-Star Anthony Davis (pictured) had a hand in Carmelo’s face on several shots, including one he blocked in the last 2 minutes. However, when it mattered most, Melo delivered. He finished with a game-high 42 points on 16-29 from the field.

“It was just a game where I didn’t want to see it slip away,” Anthony said.

The Pelicans on the other hand did let the game slip away. Poor rotational defense, questionable lineups, and an inability to get Anthony Davis more shots all led to the loss.

Despite only getting 10 shot attempts, Davis finished the night with a double-double of 14 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 steals.

Eric Gordon led New Orleans in scoring with 28, though he failed to record a point in the 4th quarter. Austin River led the Pelicans off the bench with 14.

New Orleans has lost 3 of 4, all against Eastern Conference squads. Next up, a two-game road trip to the East, beginning with the Charlotte Bobcats Friday night. Tip-off is set for 6:00.
