For the second straight week, a Louisiana Ragin' Cajun has been named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week.

Cajuns' junior guard Elfrid Payton turned in back-to-back twenty point efforts this past week to help Louisiana stretch its season-high winning streak to five in a row.

Payton averaged 22.5 points, 8 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 4.steals, shooting .667 from the field (16-24).  Payton had his sixth double-double of the season in Thursday's double overtime win over UALR.  He had a career high four blocked shots in that game.  Payton followed that performance by scoring 22 points, with six rebounds, seven assists and a season-high six steals in Louisiana's 85-67 win over Arkansas State Saturday night.

The two wins moved the Cajuns from fifth place to third place in the Sun Belt standings.  Louisiana has five regular season games.

It is the fourth time a player from UL has been honored as the SBC player of the week.  Shawn Long has won the award three times, including last week.

The Cajuns host Troy Thursday night to complete a three game homestand before heading to Atlanta to play Georgia State Saturday night.
