Panthers Lose Kelvin Benjamin To Torn ACL
The Carolina Panthers suffered a major injury blow on Wednesday, when second-year receiver Kelvin Benjamin suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during a joint practice session with the Miami Dolphins.
Benjamin, who will now have surgery and miss the entire 2015 NFL season, made a cut on a pass route and fell to the ground without anyone touching him. He was then carted off the field and taken for an MRI, which confirmed the tear.
The 6-foot-5 Benjamin had a fantastic rookie season, catching 73 passes for 1,008 yards and nine touchdowns, after the Panthers selected him with the 28th-overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft out of Florida St.
Carolina selected Devin Funchess, a big receiver (6:4, 225), similar to Benjamin, in the second round of the most recent NFL Draft, and may have to rely on him to help make up for the loss.
