Just a little more than three weeks are left in the 2011-12 NBA season. Teams are trying to improve their playoff seedings and stay healthy as the postseason approaches. Here’s what’s happening in the NBA this week:
Two triple-doubles in three games from the Boston Celtics’ Rajon Rondo and a 57-point performance from Deron Williams of the New Jersey Nets highlighted the first week after the all-star break in the NBA. Here’s what else is happening in pro basketball:
The New Orleans Hornets collected their 3rd road win in the last week after beating the Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday night by the score of 89-84. It was the third game in three nights for the fleur-de-bees, making the victory that much more impressive. Chris Kaman finished with a double-double, scoring 21 points and pulling down 13 boards.
The New Orleans Hornets forced overtime on the road in Indiana Mardi Gras night, but they couldn't mambo to a win. The Pacers outscored the fleur-de-bees 17-8 in the extra period, propelling them to a 117-108 victory.
Remember what LeBron James did to fans of the Cleveland Cavaliers when he decided to take his talents to South Beach? A railing had the same effect on Moondog, the Cavaliers mascot, on Wednesday night at Quicken Loans Arena.
There were no big surprises in the NBA draft last night. As many mock drafts predicted, Duke guard Kyrie Irving went first overall to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Arizona PF Derrick Williams was the next selection, taken by the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Hornets, without a first round selection, used their lone draft pick in the second round on Kentucky Center Josh Harrellson, then traded him to the New York Knicks for cash considerations.
Now that Shaquille O'Neal has announced his retirement, it's the perfect time to discuss where he ranks among the top center in NBA history. Ethan Norof, of bleacherreport.com, does just that, as he gives his list of the ten best big men.
