Cajun Softball Team Tops UTEP & Northwestern

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun softball team opened up the 8th Annual Mardi Gras Invitational at Lamson Park with two straight victories. First, it was a dominating 11-1 win over UTEP. Second, it was a hard fought 6-4 victory over Northwestern University.

NCAA College Football Bowl Recap — Dec. 31-Jan. 8

While we can argue about whether or not the right teams were playing, it was hard to argue with the excitement of the BCS bowl games so far. Three of the four were decided either in the last seconds of regulation (Rose Bowl) or in overtime (Fiesta and Sugar bowls), while the fourth (Orange Bowl) shattered virtually every bowl game record on the books for offensive statistics.

But the non-BCS games also gave us a lot of close games and great individual performances, as well. Here are the highlights from the final week of bowl season.

After all the disgusting headlines out of Penn State dominating the sports world this past week, it was good to return to the field with some actual football. And the Top 25 gave us plenty of excitement to discuss.

Seven ranked teams, including two in the Top Five, went down to defeat. Boise State saw its BCS hopes die on a missed field goal as time expired (again). Oregon downed Stanford in a wild Pac-12 shootout. Oklahoma State looked every bit the part of a title contender.
