After an off-season filled with scandal and controversy, seeing college football back on the field was a welcome sight. The Los Angeles Kings captured their first Stanley Cup title on Monday night. Their improbable title run made them the first eighth-seeded team to win the NHL championship.

Lakers Squeak By Hornets 88-85

For the second straight game, the New Orleans Hornets had only 8 healthy players in uniform. It was almost enough Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles, but the Lakers managed to sqeak by the scrappy Hornets 88-85. Kobe Bryant shot a paltry 3-21 from the field, missing his first 15 shots. Jason Smith and Jarrett Jack both had double-doubles in defeat.
