San Francisco 27 – N.Y. Giants 20
Defensive end Justin Smith swatted down an Eli Manning pass to end a potential game-tying drive, as the San Francisco 49ers beat the New York Giants 27-20. Kicker David Akers had four field goals for San Francisco (8-1), which found enough offense to win despite playing most of the game without leading rusher Frank Gore, who suffered a knee injury
The New Orleans Saints will go into the bye week at 7-3, sitting atop the NFC South after their overtime victory on the road against their arch rivals, the Atlanta Falcons. Saints kicker John Kasay nailed a 26 yard FG in sudden death. A short field was set-up for the offense after Atlanta elected to go for in on 4th and inches and werer stuffed by the New Orleans defense.
The Green Bay Packers survived a mild scare to stay unbeaten, while the Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams remained winless thanks to two potential new stars in Denver and Dallas. Here is the recap of the week seven action in the NFL:
Denver 18 – Miami 15 (OT)
After Tim Tebow led the Broncos to 15 points in the final 2:44 of regulation to tie the game, Denver beat the Miami Dolphins 18-15 on Matt Prater’s 52-yard field goal in overtime
Two head coaches fought, while another was injured during a game, as week six of the 2011 NFL season left just the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers as the lone unbeaten team in the league.
The 2011 NFL season has been unpredictable thus far. After three weeks, a team that missed the playoffs in 2010 is at the top, or tied for the lead, in every division in both the AFC and NFC. Week Four brings new tests for the three undefeated teams in Detroit, Buffalo and Green Bay and new opportunities for those squads looking for their first wins
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Devery Henderson (along with DE Will Smith) is the longest tenured player on the team. During his 8 year career, there have been tons of doubters and harsh critics of Devery's game. Many suggested that he be cut, or traded, or not resigned. Many are now eating some crow. Devery is deaf to his doubters. He quietly does his job, and so far in this 2011 season, does it extremely well.
