After Seattle and Oakland began the 2012 season with a split of a two-game series in Japan last week, Major League Baseball is ready for all of its teams to begin play this week. Opening Day for the 2012 season is Wednesday, when the world champion St. Louis Cardinals face the new look and newly-named Miami Marlins in the inaugural game at Marlins Park in Miami. Here’s this week’s MLB report:
The Marlins unveiled many new things at a press event last Friday — a new name (Miami instead of Florida), a new manager in Ozzie Guillen and a new look in game day attire. In sad, but related news, every old person in the state of Florida had a massive stroke at the sight of the new uniforms.
Miami Marlins outfielder Ichiro Suzuki collected the 3,000th hit of his great career on Sunday afternoon, tripling off the right-field wall in the 7th inning, in the Marlins' 10-7 win over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.
