NBA Draft Results

There were no big surprises in the NBA draft last night. As many mock drafts predicted, Duke guard Kyrie Irving went first overall to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Arizona PF Derrick Williams was the next selection, taken by the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Hornets, without a first round selection, used their lone draft pick in the second round on Kentucky Center Josh Harrellson, then traded him to the New York Knicks for cash considerations.

Hornets Punch Their Playoff Ticket

For the third time in four years, the New Orleans Hornets will be part of the NBA's postseason. The Hornets punched their ticket Wednesday night with a 101-93 victory over the Houston Rockets. Chris Paul scored 28 points, dished out 10 assists, and pulled down 9 boards. Trevor Ariza scored 19, snagged 5 rebounds, and led the defense with 6 steals.

On the day the Hornets learned they lost David West for the season, New Orleans went into Phoenix and won for the fifth time in their last seven games. Carl Landry, starting at PF for the injured West, scored 19 points, helping the Hornets beat the Suns 106-100.

The Boston Celtics made clutch free throws late to defeat the Hornets 89-85 at the Hive Saturday night. The soldout crowd in New Orleans left the arena unhappy, as the Hornets fell to 7th in the Western Conference, only one game back of Portland and a game and a half back of Denver.

Chris Paul's dominance was on display once again Wednesday night. The Hornets all-star point guard scored 26 points, had 3 steals, 5 rebounds, and dished out 9 assists to outplay Suns PG Steve Nash. In three games since his return from a mild concussion, Paul has averaged 28.7 points and 11.3 assists.
