North Carolina outlasted Oregon State 8-6 Saturday in the longest nine inning game in the history of the College World Series.

The game lasted four hours, 24 minutes, three minutes longer than Miami's 21-13 win over Tennessee in 2001.

The Tar Heels jumped out to an early 6-1 lead and held off several Beavers' rallies to get the win.

North Carolina (44-18) and Oregon State (49-11-1) combined for 24 hits, eight walks and six hit batsmen and used a combined 10 pitchers in the marathon. There were only two half-innings in which batters were retired in order.

North Carolina will meet Mississippi State Monday night in an elimination game, while Oregon State, the #3 national seed, will take on fellow Pac-12 rival Washington in an elimination game Monday afternoon.
