The New Orleans Saints placed 3 starters on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list today.

Victor Butler, who tore his ACL last month during the Saints offseason OTAs (organized team activities), was expected to be placed on injured reserved. However, today his name appeared on the PUP list, along with starting strong safety Roman Harper (pictured), and cornerback Patrick Robinson.

Harper's injury is unknown, though he practiced during some of the Saints OTAs. Robinson suffered a mild knee injury during OTAs as well.

Players must be placed on the PUP-list before the start of training camp to be PUP eligible. Players can be moved off the preseason PUP list to the active roster at any time, even after one practice.

A player cannot be placed on the PUP list once he has taken the field for a practice, regardless of the amount of time.

If a player remains on the PUP list during the regular season, said player's team has a three-week window to allow the player to begin practicing; from the day the player begins practicing, teams have an additional three-week window to decide whether to activate the player to the 53-man roster.
