Mercury Hayes was a receiver for the New Orleans Saints for parts of two seasons, from 1996-1997.

Born in Houston, Texas, Hayes went on to play college football for the Michigan Wolverines, where he caught 122 passes for 2,109 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four years.

In his senior season of 1995, Hayes compiled 46 receptions for 888 yards and four touchdowns.

Hayes was selected in the 5th round of the 1995 NFL Draft by the Saints, who he played seven games for, catching four passes for 101 yards.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Hayes played four games for New Orleans in 1996, before moving on to the Atlanta Falcons, where he appeared in two games, before his shot NFL career came to an end.

After his NFL playing days were over, Hayes played for the Barcelona Dragons of NFL Europe in 1999, and the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL, from 1999-2000.
