ESPN.com is reporting Brent Musburger, one of the most recognizable sports broadcasters in the history of television, will step down from his play-by-play duties with ABC/ESPN next week.

The 77 year old Musburger will call his final game when Kentucky hosts Georgia from Rupp Arena on ESPN next Tuesday.

Musburger joined ABC in 1990 after a long stint with CBS Sports.  Musburger was the host of the ground-breaking NFL Today show on CBS, the first to utilize live pregame, halftime and postgame shows.

But Musburger was not without his critics, especially when it came to reactions to his opinions.  He came under fire for his comments about Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon in the wake of a surveillance video which showed Mixon punching a woman.

He is a member of the National Association of Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame.
