The Ohio State University has suspended head coach Urban Meyer for the first three games of the 2018 season following an investigation that concluded Meyer and others mishandled the domestic assault allegations involving former assistant coach Zach Smith.

Meyer is also suspended without pay through September 2.  He can rejoin the team after that but will not be permitted to coach in games against Oregon State, Rutgers and TCU.  Interim coach Ryan Day will continue to lead the program in Meyer's absence.

Athletic Director Gene Smith has also been suspended without pay from August 31 through September 16.

Addressing the media Wednesday night, Meyer expressed remorse for giving Zach Smith the "benefit of the doubt" and said, "I followed my heart and not my head."

The investigation showed Meyer and Smith failed to take sufficient action regarding Zach Smith's misconduct.
