Two men are behind bars after attempting to cash fraudulent checks in Scott and Lafayette last week.

According to Scott Police Chief Chad Leger, 51-year-old Reginald Fields, of Houma, and 58-year-old Jimmy Mayes, of New Orleans, each tried cashing checks totaling $3,800 at the Scott branch of St. Martin Bank on June 11. When attempting to cash identical checks at a Lafayette location of St. Martin Bank, a vigilant teller became suspicious noticing an identical transaction was processed earlier that same day. Bank personnel then contacted the Lafayette Police Department.

The two men were charged with monetary instrument abuse by both the Lafayette and Scott Police Departments and booked into the Lafayette Parish jail.
