Elijah McGuire rushed for 162 yards and tied a school record with five touchdowns as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns rolled to a 44-17 win over Northwester State in the 15th Annual Herbert Heymann Football Classic at Cajun Field before a crowd of 26,824.

McGuire scored on runs of 7. 88. 3. 24 and 1 yard to match Brian Mitchell's five rushing touchdowns, a record also held by Alonzo Harris.  His 162 yards came on just 14 carries on the night.  Torrey Pierce, Darius Hoggins and quarterback Brooks Haack also topped 50 yards rushing each as Louisiana rolled up 360 yards on the ground in just 42 carries.  Pierce scored the final Cajuns touchdown from one yard out.

So efficient was the Cajuns' running game that they only threw the football nine times, with Haack completing 7-8 for 187 yards.  Wide receiver Devin Scott paced the Cajuns with three catches for 90 yards.

The Cajuns only punted once in the contest and scored on seven possessions.  The game ended with UL taking a knee at the Demons' three yard line.

Northwestern (0-2) rushed for 234 yards on 55 carries in the game.  Daniel Taylor led the way with 60 yards while Chris Jones added 57, with 41 of them coming on a touchdown run in the first half.  The Demons used three quarterbacks in the game.  Starter Joel Blumenthal completed 3-5 passes for 56 yards and rushed eleven times for (-3) yards.  He was sacked three times.  Sophomore J. D. Almond played most of the second half and was 5-10 for 66 yards and a touchdown.  He was sacked once.  Daniel Hazelwood was 1-1 for 13 yards.

The Demons wound up with 369 yards in total offense on 71 snaps, compared with the Cajuns' 547 yards on 51 plays. The Demons had a nearly ten minute advantage in time of possession.

The Cajuns drove 75 yards on their first possession with Haack hitting Devon Scott for 20 yards and freshman Keenan Barnes for 27 on the drive, which culminated with McGuire's first touchdown from seven yards away.  After a Demon's punt, McGuire went over right guard and turned it into an 88 yard touchdown run to make it 14-0.

Chris Jones capped a 76 yard scoring drive with a 41 yard touchdown run after the only Cajuns' punt of the night to make the score 14-7.  But the Cajuns came right back and the Demons never got closer than 13 points the rest of the way.

The Cajuns will get next week off before entertaining Akron on September 26th at Cajun Field.
