Surprised?  You shouldn't be.

Louisiana's Elijah McGuire has been named the preseason Offensive Player of the Year on the Sun Belt Conference Preseason All-Conference team, released today by the league.

McGuire was the Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the year after a stellar sophomore season where he rushed for 1,264 yards and 14 touchdowns.  He also caught 45 passes for 468 yards and another two scores.

His rushing total was the fourth best single season total in school history and he became the first Cajun to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season since Tyrell Fenroy and Michael Desormeaux in 2008.

McGuire was the only Cajun to be selected to the first team all conference squad.

David Mims of Texas State was the preseason Defensive Player of the Year.  A first team All-Conference defensive back a year ago, Mims tallied five interceptions in the final seven games of the season.  He also added 48 tackles.

Six Cajuns were named to the second team:  Offensive linemen Mykhael Quave and Octravian Anderson, wide receiver Jamal Robinson, defensive lineman Darzil Washington, linebacker Dominique Tovell and defensive back Tracy Walker.

Arkansas State led the league with eleven total selections with six on the first team, includuing quarterback Fredi Knighten and wide receiver J. D. McKissick.
