The New Orleans Pelicans were halfway to pushing their win streak to six games against the Mavericks, but a poor third quarter led to a 93-102 loss.

It was a tight game heading into the locker room at halftime, but the Pels held the slight, 58-55 lead. The well dried up offensively in the third quarter, where New Orleans only mustered 13 points to Dallas' 25. It proved to be too much to overcome in the final quarter.

Alexis Ajinca did everything in his strength to try to push the Pelicans to a win, posting a 13 points, 12 rebound double-double. Including the loss to Dalas, that puts the long-armed big man at 14.6 points 7.8 rebounds per night over the last five games. Norris Cole was the only other player for New Orleans who registered a positive plus/minus rating at the game's end, cashing in 19 points in over 30 solid minutes on the court.

Eric Gordon and Tyreke Evans combined for 35 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds, but it was't enough to counteract the distributed Dallas offensive attack. Rajon Rondo orchestrated the offense, while still collecting 19 points. Six different Mavericks scored over 14 points...but it ultimately comes back to the third quarter.

Part of the allure of the Pelicans win streak was their surprising consistency, or rather, a lack of extended periods of funky offensive tendencies. The shots simply weren't falling coming out of the locker room to start the latter half of the game, and Dallas capitalized to push their record to 40-22 on the season.

Entering the arena in Dallas, New Orleans was only a half game back from the eight spot in the Western Conference Playoffs. The loss drops them to 32-28 on the year, but they return to the Smoothie King Center on Wednesday, where they are 20-10 on the season. Can we all admit that win streak was fun while it lasted though?
