He didn't start the game against Troy. In fact, had it not been for an injury to quarterback Blaine Gautier, he probably wouldn't have played at all.

But Louisiana quarterback Chris Masson answered the call when Gauthier twisted an ankle on the game's first drive and led the Ragin' Cajuns to a 31-17 win over five-time defending Sun Belt Champion Troy.

And, for his efforts, the senior has been named the Offensive Player of the Week by the Sun Belt Conference.

Masson, a senior from Miami, completed 21-29 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns. He did not throw an interception. Masson hit freshman Larry Pettus with his first pass of the game, a one yard touchdown on fourth down which capped the opening drive and gave the Cajuns a 7-0 lead. Then, with the Cajuns leading 7-3 in the second quarter, Masson led a six-play, 79 yard drive which culminated in a 28 yard scoring pass to Javone Lawson, increasing the Louisiana lead to 14-3.

Masson's performance helped the Ragin' Cajuns to their fifth straight win and tied the 2001 Middle Tennessee team for the best start to a season in Sun Belt Conference history.
