Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns finished Spring Ball this week, and Head Coach Mark Hudspeth put a cap on camp with some final words.

The Cajuns had a lot to figure out this Spring. If you're wondering if Coach Hud named his starting quarterback yet, he didn't. He came about as close as possible to naming Jordan Davis his starter, stating that Davis was still the leader. He just wasn't comfortable enough to definitively put him ahead of Chris Weaver and Dion Ray yet.

"I guess I'm just letting them know that he's not so far in the lead," Hud explained. Saturday's Spring Game didn't provide him with the proof he needed to pull the trigger, but Hud admitted he handcuffed Davis a bit. "Some things he was doing very well, we didn't allow him to do it."

Hud is still waiting for Davis to grab the reins at quarterback, but a couple other players are stepped up for him and claimed undisputed leadership roles on offense and defense.

Eddie Gordon will be the veteran presence on the offensive line, and Hudspeth said his vocal leadership is coming to the forefront, along with wide receiver Al Riles. Riles spent some time on defense, and he brings the same ferocity to his offensive approach. If somebody needs to get chewed out, Riles certainly isn't scared to do it.

Riles' best buddy on the team, linebacker Otha Peters, is grabbing hold of the defense with an iron fist as well.

"He has taken the helm on the defensive side of the ball," Hudspeth said about Peters.

Peters and Riles bring attitude and toughness to the team, two traits that Hudspeth said he saw more of this Spring. They were able to hit more, due to some luck in the health department, which always helps build physicality.

Speaking of health, Hud is expecting to have a few different Cajuns back on June 1st. Wide Receivers Gabe Fuselier and Jared Johnson are both expected to start on offense, and they will make their return along with defensive lineman Taboris Lee to start off the summer. A few other guys were dinged up, including Gary Haynes, but Hud expects them to be back at full force in a hurry. In the meantime, he got some looks at other guys to add onto the depth.

In terms of depth, Hud really likes where they're at on the offensive line.

"We have a lot of depth on the offensive line," Hudspeth said. "One of the best we've had in a while."

There's a bunch of young (strong) pups waiting to get their shot in the trenches, and left guard Robert Hunt leads the way. Coach Hud said he could very well be a four-year starter, and he even compared him to Mykhael Quave. That's high praise, and it will be Hunt's job to live up to the hype.

It will be a while before we hear from the football team again. They survived the spring with relative health, but now it's time to start answering some serious questions before the start of the season.
