TCU (0-1) proved to be a tough test, but the LSU Tigers (1-0) took down the Horned Frogs 37-27 on Saturday night at the Cowboys Classic in Arlington,Texas.

The game was iced when Jarvis Landry reeled in a 20 yard touchdown from Zach Mettenberger at the 6:09 mark of the 4th quarter, giving LSU the final points of the contest.

Offensively, new LSU offensive coordinator Cam Cameron has to be pleased with his team’s output. The Tigers racked up 448 yards. A great balance on the ground (197 yards) and through the air (251 yards).

TCU trailed the entire contest, but cut the Tiger lead to 3 midway through the 4th quarter on a 39 yard Jaden Oberkrom field goal.

LSU answered in a big way. Odell Beckham returned the ensuing kickoff 75 yards, setting up the final touchdown by Landry.

On the ground, LSU didn’t need Jeremy Hill. Many speculated on whether Hill would play after his arrest in April. He dressed, but remained on the sideline from start to finish. Despite his absence, LSU’s rushing attack was impressive. Terrance McGee led the way with 95 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a 52 yard scamper early in the 2nd half.

“Terrance McGee is a talented player,” explained coach Les Miles. “He’s a guy all of us in the program root for…he’s a great young man.”

Alfred Blue added 89 yards on the ground, though fumbled deep in LSU territory in the 4th quarter. The turnover led to a TCU touchdown.

Landry led the way in the receiving department, catching 8 passes for 109 yards and a score. Odell Beckham Jr. reeled in 5 catches for 118 yards. No other Tiger caught more than 1 pass.

LSU’s defense held TCU to 259 total yards, forced 2 turnovers, and helped the Tigers win the time of possession battle 36:01 to 23:59.

Les Miles’ and his team will return to Baton Rouge and prepare to host the UAB Blazers (0-1) at 6:00 on Saturday. UAB lost to Troy today in their season opener.
